MATWORK PILATES FOR MENOPAUSE

There are many symptoms of menopause 

Hot Flashes - or power surges

Sleep disorders

Mood Swings

Decreased Libido

Fuzzy Thinking

Increased Food cravings

Joint and muscle symptoms

 

These are to name just a few!!

 

So What are the effects of menopause?

 

The body - As we age the ability to rebuild collagen is decreased.

The fat layer under the skin starts to decrease and this may lead to wrinkles and sagging skin.

 

With the decrease in the hormone estrogen, bone density may because an issue. Estrogen has anti inflammatory properties and its decrease may allow swelling in the joints to occur.  Sometimes this swelling is mistaken for arthritis.  While some impact is beneficial for the bones and also for rebudiling collagen.

 

Muscle and skin tonicity loss there may sometimes be weight gain. Usually this appears around the middle with simultaneous loss of fat around the hips and thighs. Can be a combination of hormonal fluctuations and the slowing down of metabolism.  So we need to encourage Cardio activity which needs to be for at least 20-30 minutes for the body to start burning its fat storage.

 

The areas where we loose are fat distribution are:-

 

  • The Breasts

  • The upper arms - triceps area

  • Around the navel

  • Between the thighs

  • The buttocks

  • The outer thighs

  • Around the vagina

  • Inside the knees

We therefore work the following area:-

 

  • Arms

  • Upper Body Work

  • Hip Work

  • Balance

  • Glut Work

  • Abdominals

  • Pelvic Floor Work
